Nena Martins
Actor- Writer
Hello!
My name is Nena Martins (she/ her), and I am a Portuguese-born, LA-based playwright, actor, and overall theatre enthusiast. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northwestern University with a degree in Theatre and Creative Writing. My solo show Cry Baby, which explores the ways in which the patriarchy invades and molds female sexual expression, was recently produced by Rhino Fest in Chicago and awarded the DQT American Woman Fellowship in New York. My first full-length play Things I Wish I Said Out Loud was produced at Northwestern University in 2022 and my latest socio-political play Don’t Feed the Pigeons! was commissioned by the University of Southern California for a workshop production directed by David Warshofsky. I am also a proud Miranda Family Fellow since 2022, and my short film script Sam the Unsinkable was presented at the Miranda Family Summit at the Public Theatre in New York. Some of my favorite acting credits include Yvette in Trap Door’s Mother Courage (Jeff Award Recommendation), Lucy in the Factory Theatre’s Round Yon Virgin, and Julia in Yale Production’s upcoming feature Yellow Eyes. I am an ensemble member at Chicago’s Gwydion Theatre Company.
